State
benefits
State benefits can be more generous
In some cases than Federal Benefits. For example, Illinois veterans
can attend a state school for free. Some states require that you have
been a prior resident to be eligible for certain benefits. Most do not.
It pays to research not just your own home state but several others
as well.
In addition to state benefits, some towns will offer their own benefits
unique to residents of the town. Most often these come in the form of
a token property tax deduction of anywhere from fifty to one hundred
dollars to free admission to the local fair for you and your family.
Because they are local benefits many times these are not communicated
to the state office. It pays to make a phone call to your local representative,
usually called a county services officer.
Many states offer additional benefits beyond what is listed here to
those who have documented war time experience or who are disabled veterans.
For further information please check with that states veteran affairs
office.
